What is DHA Omega-3?
Omega-3 is an essential fatty acid necessary for the healthy development and functions of our bodies. Omega-3 is available from several sources. The DHA Omega-3 used in this bread comes from algae, but is added in such a way that you can’t taste it.
The Omega-3 fatty acids are present as EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid), DHA (docosahexaenoic acid), and ALA (alphalinolenic acid). Fatty fish will provide the EPA and DHA, algae will provide DHA, and the seed and nut oils will provide the ALA. The studies done at the University of Guelph in Ontario, Canada reveal that the average American consumes approximately 130mg of EPA and DHA per day, while nutritional scientists recommend between 500mg and 1000mg per day.
